Beauty Box Swap

A little over a month ago Kat from Tales of a Pale Face conducted a summer beauty box swap, if you have never heard or taken part in one of these before, its when you and a partner ( normally someone you have never met) agree on a budget and buy make up and beauty related item for them. The idea is that its a little surprise for you as you have no idea what the other person is getting for you, and also gives you a chance to try brands that you wouldn't normally buy. It's great fun buying for the other person and hoping they like what you have picked out for them.

I love taking apart in swap boxes so I put my name down straight away, Kat then emailed me with a partner that she had picked out and I was teamed up with the gorgeous and lovely Hannah from Midnight Violets. We agreed on a budget which was £20 and we told each other items that we liked and didn't like.

Today the parcel came and this is what I got.....

All my goodies beautifully wrapped

Some lovely samples

I was like a child at Christmas unwrapping the cute parcels which Hannah had picked out for me, I must say she did really well!

The first item I unwrapped was a Collection 2000 Cream Puff in "Fairy Cakes 3". This is  a gorgeous burnt orange coral with fantastic pigmentation, I think it is a little similar to the Rimmel Apocolips in formula and colour pay off. I'm super happy with this colour, as you all must know by now I LOVE coral so this is right up by street!

Next up is 17's Mirror Shine lipstick in "Belle". The colour in the bullet looks quite dark but comes out like a sheer rose colour which is so pretty! The lipstick has a cute little mirror in the packaging which I thought was such a good idea.

Another lip product that Hannah picked for me was the MUA Power Pout in "Runway". This again is a colour I would pick out myself so she has done really well there. A organgey red tinted lip balm which is hydrating and well pigmented. It was a lovely minty taste and smell to it which I love.

Staying on the lip theme Hannah also gave me a lip balm in Cherry Blossom from Figs and Rouge. This smells divine and has a slight raspberry tint to it. Its 100% natural and really moisturising.

Left to right- Barry M Eyeshadow pencil, 17 lipstick in "Belle", MUA Power Pout in "Runway" and Collection 2000 Cream Puff in "Fairy Cakes 3"

The next three items are my absolute favourite's. The fourth package was a Barry M eyeshadow pencil, this is such a gorgeous, well pigmented and super shiny metallic gold, I LOVE it and can't wait to use it! It is just stunning!

Hannah commented on how much I love blushers and picked me out two to try. The first one was her all time favourite blush from Natural Collection in "Blushed Cheeks". A dusky rose in a matte formulation, its not a colour I would normally go for ( because you know how much I love my coral) but I'm excited to try it, its not too pink and has a slight burnt organge undertone.

The next blush was one that I was so excited about,  I've heard so much about the brand and have never tried anything from them. Hannah got me a Topshop cream blush in "Head Over Heels". Yes you've guessed it a fabulous, gorgeous bright coral!!! YAYYY!
OMG I love this colour so much, I even had to put my finger in it before taking any photos which is a big blogger No No, but I don't care I just had to swatch it straight away! I know I'm going to love it!

Left to right- Topshop "Head over Heels" and Natural Collection "Blushed Cheeks"

Thank you so much Hannah for this fantastic box swap, you got everything spot on. I am going to have so much fun trying these all out!

Hannah included this lovely note!

Make up Haul! Mac,Nars,Laura Mercier and lots more!

Hello lovely people!
I haven't done a haul post in what seems like ages so I thought I would share with you some of the things that have made it into my shopping basket lately. All of this was not brought on the same day but over a number of weeks. I'm so excited to try these out, a lot of them are blogger favourites and I was left on a shopping high knowing that they are now in my possession.

All my lovely goodies, don't they look gorgeous!

Face Make up

Nars Laguna
I have to kick start this off with my most lusted item, (*stabilises breathing to continue writing...). Nars Laguna bronzer needs no introduction at all, it's well loved by everyone and their cat! A matte bronzer that is a true brown with no orange undertone's, fab for contouring and adding that sunkissed glow to the skin.
When I was at the counter I was worried that is was going to be too light for me as I use fake tan a lot and try to maintain a "glow" all year round, the assiant reassured me that this is buildable and that it would show up on my skin tone.
I'm so excited to finally have this, I haven't found a bronzer that  I really like at the moment and I'm hoping this is going to live up to the hype that surrounds it.
While I was a Nars I got to samples of the Sheer foundation to try out, the assistant colour matched me and gave me the Sheer Glow and Sheer Matt to try, again I'm looking forward to testing these babies out!

Stila Stay all day 10 in 1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm, SPF 30
I purchased this with summer in mind, and for days when I'm out and about and don't want to where a foundation, but still wanting to add some colour to my skin. This will be the first BB cream I've tried as they haven't really appealed to me too much, I love the fact the it has a high SPF in it and hope it may convert me.

Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation
Again this is a well known foundation loved by many. I'm always on the hunt for that "magic" foundation, the one that sits on your skin beautifully and covers all the imperfections that reside on our face.
This promises to give a flawless natural coverage,  with light diffusing particles that will hide fine lines and wrinkles. It is said to be buildable and long wearing,....sounds perfect!

Nail polishes from Seche

I purchased these from my local hairdressing and beauty wholesalers on a 3 for 2 offer. Seche Vite top coat is meant to one of the best top coats on the market. The claims are that it's fast drying and super shiny with a gel like finish that makes your polish last. I also got two of their coloured polishes in Scorchin Hot, a gorgeous bright coral red and Rose II, a baby pink that I just love!

Rose II

Lipsticks

Mac Costa Chic frost formulation

Mac Costa Chic is my lasted Mac lipstick purchase and continues with my coral obsession. I'm really loving this lipstick, it a bright pinky coral and is made completely wearable by the frost formula, its super moisturising and long wearing and just gorgeous. This was a back to Mac product which means it was completely free! Making me love it even more. ;)

Nars Lipgloss in Super Orgasm
I've wanted Super orgasm for ages and this did not disappoint! It gives a lovely sheen to the lips without making them look like plastic, its also really long wearing for a lipgloss and my hair doesn't gravitate to it like others seem to make it do. Its a beautiful pink colour with gold shimmer that catches the light, great to wear on its own or on top of lipstick to give a more glossy finish. This is definitely going to be a well loved product!

St Tropez Gradual Tan in Dark

As you all know I love to tan but I have become a little lazy lately with applying my regular tan. I thought I would give this a go because you use it just like moisturiser, either everyday or a couple of times a week. I have used this and I must admit I really like it, it doesn't have that horrible biscuit smell and the colour is really natural. Because it's a moisturiser my skin looks hydrated and feels super soft with a subtle golden sheen.
I have found that  this wears off really well without the crocodile skin and so far I'm pleased with the results.
I think this would be really good as a tan extender when using my normal weekly fake tan to maintain the colour as well as moisturising my skin.

Eye Products

Mac Eye brow Pencil in Fling
I brought this as I've never tried any of their pencils before, the colour looks very natural, a cool ash brown which will be perfect for my brows.

Mac Eyeshadow in Woodwinked
I purchased this after seeing Tanya Burr's Birthday " Get ready with me" video. I don't normally wear eyeshadow's this dark but I feel in love with it in the video. Its a deep bronze/gold/ brown shade ( hard to explain because it changes colour in different lights), which has a shimmer to it making it super shiny on the eyes.
The picture above does not do it justice but I will do a blog post on it soon with more swatches and photos of how it looks on the eye. It goes without saying that I'm loving the eyeshadow at the moment!

What do you think of my haul? Any products that have caught your eye?

Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Lush Nectarine

This year my obsession has to be coral! I'm all over it like a rush and find myself buying everything from make up to clothes in this gorgeous colour.

Searching through space NK recently I noticed this bad boy and just had to purchase it to add to my collection of ever growing blushers.

I have never tried any blushers from Laura Mercier and I found myself excited to see how it performs. The shade is a beautiful, a pinky coral almost peach with just the right amount of pigmentation. There is a slight shimmer to it but nothing too heavy and just enough to give a natural healthy glow to the skin. I don't like blushers with too much shimmer, I find they emphasise my pores too much.

Swatched in natural light and then with flash
I have found myself picking this blush out of all my others lately,I
just love the way it looks on my skin. I find it lasts throughout the day, which is great and saves me having to take it with me for touch ups. Its not the cheapest product in the world but I'm so glad I have it and would definitely be buying more blushes from her range in the future.
The blush can be purchased from Space NK for £20.50

Thank you for reading,
I would love to know if you have tried any other blushers from this range or have any other coral tone blushers that you think I might like, I'm always on the look out for more coral!!

Summer Lipsticks, ( Featuring Mac and Revlon Swatches)

Summer has finally arrived in the UK, (well sort of ) so what better time to share with you my favourite summer lipstick shades.

I'm loving pink and coral shades at the moment so you may see a slight pattern occur!

Now this may surprise a few of you, but I did not ( until recently) own any MAC lipsticks! So after a long hunt through all their different shades I picked three to start off my collection.

Left to Right - Mac Vegas Volt, Revlon Lovers Coral, Mac Impassioned, Mac Full speed

From top to bottom, Mac -Vegas Volt, Revlon - Lovers Coral, Mac- Impassioned, Mac- Full Speed

Mac - Impassioned

A bright pink lipstick that adds a pop of colour to your lips. A cool pink with a slight coral tone brightens up any look and great for going out.

Mac -  Full Speed
A gorgeous coral with pink and orange under tones. I love this because it is so wearable and warms up your skin tone. Looks fantastic with a tan and a must have shade for summer

Revlon - Lovers Coral 825

A sheer pinky coral that adds a slight tint to the lips. I love this on days where I want a subtle shot of colour without going for a nude. Its my lips on a good day sort of colour.

Mac  -Vegas Volt

This is a true coral shade with orange being the man undertone and cooled down to a wearable shade, with a hint of cool pink. This looks fab with a subtle eye and bronzed cheeks.

What are your favourite summer lipsticks?

The Importance of Eyebrows: How to Achieve HD Brows at Home. #3 Defining

Hi there lovelies, this is the final part of " How to Achieve HD Brows at Home " series. Today's post is all about defining and shaping your brows, whether it be a subtle or a more dramatic look, I hope these tips will help.
Firstly, lets look at all the different products available:-

Eyebrow Gel
If you have thick eyebrows already and don't need to shade or fill them in too much, this is the perfect product for you. The gel will lightly fill in any gaps you may have as well as setting the eyebrows in shape. You can get them in all different colours. This can be done by anyone and requires no real technique.

Eyebrow Pencil
There are lots of really good eyebrow pencils on the market that will help in fill the thinnest of eyebrows. Firstly make sure you get the right colour, a pencil that is closest to your natural brows and hair colour is the best, if its too dark they will look too fake and drawn on. I find the best way to use a pencil is too lightly fill in any gaps and go over with a powder or gel to soften any harsh lines that might appear.

Eyebrow Powder
Powder products are brilliant for filling in sparse brows. When using a powder you can make them look as natural or as bold as you like. They can look more natural than a pencil as there are no harsh lines and can be blended using a wand or eyebrow comb. I find they HD Brow pallet really good, they come in all different colours and lasts all day without smudging.
You don't need to go out and purchase an eyebrow kit thou, any matte eye-shadow  in the shade that suits you will work just as well. When using a powder I find the best brush to use in a small angled brush.
The technique which works for you is down to practising and experimenting. Start off lightly and build up slowly, always going with the natural shape of your brows.
Below I have highlighted the technique that works best for me.
The first shows  a natural look and the second, a more bold dramatic brow.

  •  When creating a more natural shape concentrate on defining the base of the brow.
  • Starting off in the inner corner of you the eye, lightly brush the powder through.
  • Turn the brush so it is on its side and lightly run the powder along the base of your brow. This will define the underneath and make the hairs look thicker at the bottom.
  • Brush through with a comb to get rid any harsh lines,.... and your done!
Before and after
A naturally shaped and defined eyebrow

If  you like a bold brow like I do, here is how to reshape them and achieve a more dramatic look.
  • Start in the same position as before, in the inner corner and run a line along the bottom of the brow.
  • Do the same along the top.
  • Once you have done this you are left with the shape, now all you need to do is fill in the area between the lines.
  • Do this lightly and then build it up, still allowing hairs to be seen through the powder so not to make it look too unnatural.
  • Comb through them or use a eyebrow gel to set them and soften any lines.
  • To define them even more you can run a pale eyeshadow or highlighter along your brow bone.

Before and after
This photo shows my brows before Waxing and Tinting , and then after with powder.

As you can see there is a real difference between the pictures, the brow looks neater and a lot more defined, and all this without a trip to the salon! I hope you have found some tips and tricks in this series and I would love to hear if you have tried any of them at home. If you have missed any post from this series the links can be found above under the photo.
