IdHAIR Volumizing Dry Shampoo Review

IdHair Volumizing Dry Shampoo £10.95*
Like many people I love a good dry shampoo. I've tried a few in my time and even though I love the fact that it means I don't have to wash my hair for an extra day I hate the "grey" halo that I seem to achieve on my root area, NOT a good look if you ask me!
This shampoo is only one of a few that doesn't do this. The spray is clear and designed to be used by both blonde and dark hair, which means you can use if without ageing 10 years in the process...Fab!! The mist absorbs dirt, oil and product build-up to refresh second day hair and the fresh fruity fragrance make it feel instantly cleaner.

What makes this even better is it's designed to add body and give your hair that extra oomph. Again I have tried a few that promise to do this and I have hated the feeling in which my hair was left. Some leave my hair looking like a birds nests while others seem to weigh it down even more.
When I tried this, part of me was thinking that it would be the same and I half heatedly gave it a go. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the fine mist DOES add texture to the hair without it feeling horrible and the need of a good wash.
Like most dry shampoos I find that it gives my hair an extra day before washing. The fine spray is light and not powdery, it coats the hair adding volume and texture without weighing it down or making it look dull and lifeless.

When using all dry shampoos make sure not to spray them too close to the roots area, leave a good arms length of distance to avoid over loading the hair. Let it dry for a few seconds then give it a good brush through to distribute the product evenly. This should result in a happy hair day and a few more minutes in bed without the pressure of having to wash your hair! ;)

What's your favourite dry Shampoo?

Mac - Relentlessly Red

Mac Relentlessly Red is the latest addiction to my lipstick collection. I'm not really one to wear red lips but with Christmas coming I was feeling festive and decided on this gorgeous colour to see me through the Christmas party's and celebrations.

Relentlessly Red is a matte formula from their Retro Matte Collection, a new one to me having only tried Macs Cremesheen, Lustre, and Frost finishes. The colour on first application is quite difficult to apply, it drags slightly and takes a while for the colour to show through. After this though the colour is very pigmented and gives a great bold lip look.
"Bright pinkish coral matte"  Mac
The colour is a vibrate red with pink undertones I wouldn't really say it was a coral colour, on me it has more of a blue undertone. It's a great statement piece, teamed up with cat eye flick with plenty of mascara and your ready for a night out in a flash!

As with most matte lipsticks the wear time is amazing, one coat can easily last a night out, that does all depend on how much you drink of course, but never the less the longevity is second to none. I find the formula to be quite drying and is best worn with a lip balm underneath to stop your lips from flaking. Never the less I'm in love with this colour and it has definitely converted me to red lips!! ;)

What is your Christmas lipstick going to be?

illummi Eyebrow Pallet

illummi Eyebrow Pallet £25.00* available from Nail and Lash Boutique

If you ask anyone that knows me they will tell you that I'm obsessed with eyebrows! I know it's a weird obsession to have, but I love them! They can alter and change any make up look, giving a more polished appearance while framing the face adding definition and structure.
The Four Colour Eyebrow Pallet from illummi is a great product for anyone wanting to fill in their brows. The kit contains four shadows, a small angled brush with smudger, and 5 stencils, varying in shape and thickness. The swatch above is of all the powders included,
  1. A cool toned light brown, ideal for blonde hair or a pale skintone.
  2. A medium brown with cool under tones, ideal for dark blonde - medium brown hair.
  3. A warm toned medium brown, ideal for people with red undertones in their hair.
  4. A dark charcoal brown, ideal for dark brown or black hair.
.
(Obviously my brows are too thick for some of the stencils, but I wanted to give you an idea of the shapes that are included)

            1. Natural brow colour and shape.
2. Stencil 1 using shade 1.
3. Stencil 2 using shade 2.
4. Stencil 3 using shade 3.
5. Stencil 4 using shade 4.
6. Stencil 5 using shade 2.

The pallet is light and compact, making it handy for travel and storage. The powders are not too overly pigmented, in some cases this is a bad point but in this case it's a positive. The powders can be worn sheer for a subtle defined eyebrow look or built up for a more dramatic bolder look, giving first time wearers a chance to experiment with the colours to find the perfect shade match for their brows.
The powders can be mixed together to customise a shade best suited to you and can also be worn as eyeshadows. The angled brush is used for applying the powders when using the stencils and the smudger can be used when using the powders as eyeshadows, the perfect tool to create a smokey eye.

The stencils themselves are flexible enough to mould around the shape of your brow bone and sturdy enough to hold in place when applying the powder. Always remember to swipe the stencil clean before moving on to the next brow or you might end up with powder on your forehead... not a good look! lol

It's recommended to use the powder before moisturising and applying make up, ever the rebel that I am I used it after! There was a slight product fall out, nothing major but I think this is manly due to the soft brush rather than the powder itself. It was easily wiped off with a brush and it left no marks on my skin.

Having used all 5 stencils I can't believe how easy they are to use, all you need are two hands and some brows and you're ready to go! Fantastic for people unsure of filling in their brows themselves and perfect if you are in a hurry and want perfectly matching eyebrows in seconds. The colour choice is really good, a shade to suit almost everyone and easily blendable when used as an eyeshadow. This would be a great addition to any ones make up collection.

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Gift Set

Pomegranate Noir Gift set £66.00
Jo Malone has become one of my favourite perfume houses. Her scents captivate fine ingredients, all mastered together to create exquisite fragrances that can be worn alone or layered together.
This is the latest addiction to my Jo Malone collection, a gift from my Hubby and a lovely surprise on these grey November days, as you can imagine I was over the moon and have fallen in love with this gorgeous scent.

Pomegranate Noir is described as "Ruby-rich juices of pomegranate, raspberry and plum are spiked with pink pepper and laced with Casablanca lily and spicy woods. A dark and enigmatic fragrance."

This fragrance screams winter and Christmas time to me. The sweet fruity base notes are warmed up with a spicy almost cinnamon tone making it deep, rich and sensual, think Christmas candles and mulled wine, that warming, sweet and spicy aroma.

The body crème lingers all day, giving moisture as well as warmth to the skin. Paired with the cologne and body wash you will be sure to fill the senses of people around you.
I absolutely adore this fragrance, not one to wear in spring or summer but definitely one to wear this season while roasting chestnut's, eating mince pies and sipping on mulled wine, this to me is Christmas in a bottle!
If you haven't smelt this perfume yet I urge you to give it a sniff next time you're at a Jo Malone counter! If the scents not right for you, it would make a wonderful Christmas gift for someone special. The set comes beautifully gift wrapped in a cream and black box, the signature colours of Jo Malone and finished off with a matching stripped ribbon.

What's your Christmas/Winter scent? Do you go deeper and spicy to capture the Christmas spirt or do you keep it fresh and cooling like those winter mornings?

Tips for Healthy Hair using Save the Blowdry Shower Cap

As a hairdresser it's my job to help clients keep their hair looking and feeling fabulous. We all want healthy hair and a few tips below should help you to achieve that.

Avoid washing your locks everyday.
Over washing your hair will result in the natural oils being striped away. Its these natural oils that help nourish our hair, see it as a natural conditioner that it being produced by our bodies. If you're one of these people that have to wash it everyday, try leaving out the shampoo, just wet the hair and apply conditioner to the ends. Better still use the Save the Blow dry shower cap.
The cap is made up of two layers, the first being a micro weave towel which keeps the excess moisture and humidity away from your perfectly blow dried barnett. The second layer is plastic and keeps the water from absorbing into the first layer of material. The cap will protect your hair from water and humidity, something that normal shower caps tend not to do.

After this, apply one of the many dry shampoos that are on the market, they are designed to absorb excess oil and product build up leaving your hair fresh and ready to go.

Protect your hair from heat damage.
Use heat protection sprays to protect the hair from external heat sources. If you use hair dryers and straighteners, try and let your hair dry naturally to limit the amount of heat used. Using your hairdryer and straighteners on a cooler setting will prevent them from drying out the hair which can result in splitting and breakage.

Don't be scissor shy!
Get regular trims! You know that old saying "Cutting it will help it grow"? well it's true. When your hair is dry and spilt there is no serum or conditioning treatment in the world that will repair it. All these will do is fill in and bulk out the cuticle, giving the illusion that the hair is smooth and repaired. It is in fact just a temporary measure that will be washed away in a few washes. The only way to stop split ends working their way further up the hair shaft and resulting in further damage is to cut them off. This will stop further splitting and result in healthier hair.

Moisturise your hair as you would your skin.
Use protein enriched or moisturising conditioning treatments and leave in oils. These are designed to penetrate the hair shaft keeping it nourished and hydrated, preventing breakage and spilt ends with regular use. As previously stated they will not repair the hair but keep the hair's moisture at a even balance. Prevention is better than a cure as they say.
You can use the Save the Blowdry shower cap with your conditioning treatment as well, by turning the cap inside out. The plastic side will lock in moisture and heat allowing the conditioner to penetrate the now open cuticles.
Stay well clear of silicon based shampoos and conditioners, they will make your hair feel better but are in fact just coating the hair with silicon, which can result in a barrier on the hair that can prevent colours and perms from taking.

Be kind to your hair, what has it ever done to you?!
Be gentle to your hair especially when wet and invest in a Tangle Teaser or a similar brush. These brushes have different length teeth that are designed to glide through knots and tangles without breaking or snapping the hair.
Avoid unwanted friction on your hair caused by rubbing or backcombing. When hair is wet squeeze the excess water out with a towel and never vigorously rub it, this will weaken the hair and raise the cuticles making them more prone to damage.
When wearing your hair up try and use anti breakage hair bands that are designed not to snap or pull the hair. Tie your hair up loosely, this will avoid too much tension on the hair that can cause breakage.

So there you have it, some tips on keeping your hair healthy and fabulous!

High End Chritmas Gifts with a High End price tag!

All these products can be purchased at Selfridges.
This post includes high end gifts that some of us can only dream of and some of us actually put them on their list. I know I'm so jealous!

Diptyque Tubereuse Candle 1500g £170.00
I've always wanted a Diptyque candle and nearly bought one on my recent shopping trip a few weeks back, mind you it wasn't this size, it was the mini version and a fraction of the price! I just think it would look stunning on my table! Of course I would probably only light it on special occasions! lol

Jo Malone Signature Collection £289.00
I love Jo Malone and have only four of her fragrance's so far. This set would be perfect for testing out some of the most iconic products, in the form of bath, body, perfume and candles. Lime Basil & Mandarin Cologne (100ml), Pomegranate Body Crème (175ml), Grapefruit Body & Hand Wash (250ml), Orange Blossom Home Candle (200g), Amber & Lavender Body & Hand Lotion (250ml), Red Roses Bath Oil (200ml)

YSL La Laque Couture Colour Collection £395.00
If you know someone that loves their nail polishes and you have nearly £400 to spare this would be the perfect gift. It seems obscene to me that anyone would spend this but I suppose it all relative.
You get 24 iconic nail polishes in shades that would suit any session all present in a rather swish gift box.

Tom Ford Lipstick £36.00
This gift is not in the same price bracket as the rest but still very expensive for a lippy. Tom Ford lipsticks have been talked about loads and I would love to try one out and see if the price really reflects the quality and finish of the lipstick.

Tom Ford Deluxe 5 piece Brush Set £280.00
A 5 piece set which works out at £56 per brush. I don't know about you but I don't think I could bring myself to use them at that price, I wouldn't want to get them dirty. I'm sure they are stunning, I can imagine they would feel as soft as a baby bum and be a pleasure to use,.....if you don't mind getting them dirty that is?!

Michael Kors Watch £229.00
I have a little confession to make. One main reason for putting this in here was so maybe my husband would see it and it might make its way under my tree this year!
This is not the cheapest watch in the world but it certainly is not the most expensive. I see it as an investment and something that will (hopefully) last many years. Out of all these high end gifts this one I don't mind spending the money on..... I've been a good girl Santa!!

What do you think to these high end gifts, would you spend this sort of money on a gift or would anyone spend this on you?

Milkshake Incredible Milk, 12 Effects Leave in Conditioner

Milkshake 12 Efffect £12.99 for 150ml.

Milkshake 12 Effects leave in conditioner is the new release from the Milkshake range. If you've never heard of Milkshake before they're a professional hair brand that use milk proteins in all their products to strengthen and nourish the hair from within.
Milkshake 12 Effects is their take on the much loved and difficult to get hold of Miracle 10, a leave in conditioner that preforms 10 tasks in one bottle, this one from Milkshake promises to deliver 12, so how does it preform?

I have used both products and like most people fell in love with the concept and results of the original Miracle 10. The Milkshake version is nothing is shy away from, promising to deliver 12 effects that will transform your hair!

1.Repairs All Hair Types
2.Frizz Control
3.Prevents Spilt Ends
4.Heat Protection
5.Long Lasting Hairstyle
6.Incredible detangling
7.Magnificent Shine
8.Adds Body and Volume
9.Easier Ironing
10.Protects and Maintains Colour
11.Protects from UV Rays
12.Smoothes the Cuticle

The contents is a thin conditioner like consistency which is sprayed onto towel dried  hair. The smell is absolutely delicious, reminding me of Mr Whippy ice creams with a milky vanilla fragrance. Yummy!

Let me tell you a bit about my hair so you can understand more about the product and how it worked for me....
My hair is very dry due to years of highlighting and colouring and the use of straighteners and hair extensions. The hair extensions I use are micro loop and not the clip in ones which means they are permanent and take a lot to look after. They need a lot of moisture putting back into them as they no longer get the natural oils from the scalp. When I first tried this I thought it wasn't really going to work on my straw like hair, but I'm happy to say I was wrong!

It takes a lot for a hair product to WOW me, having tried so many in my job a lot seem to promise the earth and perform very little, but this product is different and stands out from the crowd in my opinion.
My hair was left feeling silky soft and moisturised. I could tell by the texture of my hair that it was nourished right to the tips, making them feel smooth and not uneven like they were before. It was left easy to comb and was a  lot more manageable, something that my hair rarely is!
My hair is also very fine and often gets weighed down by heavy products making it greasy and lifeless, the rich lotion is light, which is surprising due to the cream like consistency and it only took a couple of sprays to leave my hair coated in the hydrating potion.

I would recommend this to anyone with dry, porous and over processed hair, or hair that tangles easily and needs a bit of TLC. With winter here and central heating warming up our homes our hair can dry out even more and need a bit more attention. This would be perfect for that and I promise you, you will not be disappointed! I know that's a big statement to make but this has really impressed me and I think I prefer it to the Miracle 10, its richer and more hydrating. Lots of clients have commented on it while I have been using it in their hair at work and I  have had no issues or problems with it so far.

Have you tried this or any other products from the Milkshake line?

The Importance of Eyebrows- How to Achieve HD Brows at home. #2 Waxingand Eyebrow Maintainace

Today's post continues the series on "How to Achieve HD Brows at Home". In my last post you saw how to tint your brows, if you missed it, the post can be found here. Today is all about shaping them and keeping them in tip top condition. Below is everything you will need:-
*Ready to use wax Strips ( ones featured are available from boots here priced at £6.52)
*Comb or wand
*Tweezers
*Scissors

I find this brand and type the easiest to use, I've tried others but these really are fool proof. You simply pull the strips apart so you have 2 pre waxed strips.

*Place them on your brow, I always start in the inner corner.
*Rub them firmly on to the skin, ensuring they are in place, this will also warm up the wax strip.
* Pull it off in the opposite direction in which the hair grows, holding your skin taunt as you do so, this will make pulling the strip easier and less painful.
*Continue this process on the next sections...
*Any hairs that are left over can be plucked out using tweezers.
*The next step is to trim them. Trimming stray hairs will clean up your brows, making them look more structured and neater.
*To trim them simply brush your brows using a comb or wand, brush them upwards and trim any hairs that extend above the shape of your brow. Do the same on the bottom by combing them downwards and then trim off any excess hair. (FYI, small nail scissors are best, no one wants to be poked in the eye with massive kitchen scissors!!)
Before and after
Before tinting and waxing, and then after
As you can see already the brows are starting to take shape. The next stage is defining and filling in any sparse areas that are there. This will be featured in my next post.

Thank you for reading, please feel free to leave a comment with any questions you may have. If you already wax and do your own eyebrows at home I would love to know any tips and tricks you have found to get the perfect brow.
