Ipanema Flip Flops - AKA the most compfortable shoes to wear in summer!

 Ipanema Flip Flops* £14.00

I know the summer season is on the way out, but for those who are still looking for some comfy footwear to finish the season or for holiday look no further.
I for one really struggle to find Flip Flops that are comfortable and offer the right amount of support. I normally spend the whole summer in search for the perfect pair only to fail miserably and end up with cheap shoes that offer no comfort just to see me through the season. I was so happy when these landed on my door step because from first use I was in love!

I wear flip flops to work and as a hairdresser am on my feet all day. I find most shoes, especially flip flops uncomfortable to wear all day and the flat sole tends to give me back ache and hurt the bottoms of my feet after a while. All the shoes on the market that I have found offer no cushion on the feet and tend to be incredibly flat, or are comfortable but look like granny sandals and are a major fashion faux pas!

"iPANEMA’s anatomic soles are designed for both comfort and protection. They are moulded to complement every contour of the sole, meaning that less pressure is placed on your body when walking, a great feature to consider when you’re planning to stay out in the sun all day long!" Ipanema

Ipanema flip flops look like ordinary sandals, shaped in the classic design that has been round for years and a firm favourite for beach lovers everywhere. The shoes are made of soft flexible plastic that has a gel like feel and are moulded around the heel and sides for extra support and comfort. The unique design makes it feel like you're wearing slippers rather than flip flops, and the soft pliable material doesn't rub between your toes or chaff in any way. They come in a array of colours and designs ranging from plain and unstated to fancy and bold. They cater for men, women and even children ( which I must say look adorable!),  so there' s a style to suit almost everyone!
They are a dream to wear and are ideal for anyone like me that works on their feet or are looking for cool summer shoes that are comfortable as well as stylish. You can find these and other styles on the  Ipanema website

August Favourites

I sit here writing this and the weather outside does not scream August to me, it's raining and very depressing. Autumn is definitely drawing nearer so it's time to wave goodbye to yet another month and round up all the things I've been loving...

Moxi Eyeliner Brush - I won this and other brushes in a giveaway and have loved it ever since. The angle on the brush makes applying eyeliner a breeze. The slant allows you to get right to the bottom of the lash line without your own lashes getting in the way, and I feel like my hand it a lot steadier as if the weight has been evened out due to the tilted head. I don't know, all I know is its made eyeliner a hell of a lot easier and I'm forgiver grateful this is now in my life!

Makeup Geek Eye Shadows have been a firm favourite of mine since I got them last month. The pigmentation and blendable shadows have seen there way in to my everyday make up routine and no eye look has been complete without at last one of these being used.

Benefit They're Real Mascara* has seen its way back in to my make up staples draw. The long wearing formula has coated my bottom lashes all month, it lengthens and thickens them without flaking or smudging -  I forgot just how damn good it was!

Monu Brightening Boost serum* is another forgotten item. I started using this a few moths ago and initially loved the light weight formula that is meant to brighten and even out the skins texture, but like most products I found myself trailing something new and this was pushed to the back of the line. Since I've reverted back to it my skin is looking fresher and brighter and the old scars from past blemishes have started to fade and become less obvious.

Gelish Nails. This month and last month have seen me wave goodbye to nail polish and have them coated with the high shine, long wearing formula that is gel nails. I love how fresh they make my nails look, everyday is a good nail day and they look just as good after 3 weeks then they did when first applied!

Yankee Candle Early Sunrise* is a much loved scent I have been burning this month. I love how understated and subtle it is, but still refreshes my room. Most Yankee Candles I own are very potent, which is great at really filling the room with scent, but sometimes I like to have something burning which isn't too obvious and this has been it. Just lifting the senses with its fresh and relaxing aroma.
Makeup Geek Domed shadow brush. This is my first Makeup Geek brush and so far I'm really impressed! The soft bristles are dense and pack on the shadow beautifully while still blending the shadow out for a seamless transition. I'm very interested to try more from the line in the future.

How to find the Perfect Lipstick | The Nudes

Finding the perfect Nude Lipstick for your skin tone.

Oh, the quest for the perfect nude... If you're anything like me you might find the search can be long and tiresome. There are so many finishes and undertones that its hard to find the right shade that can compliment your skin tone. Get it wrong and the result is no look anyone wants to sport - Concealer Lips!!!!
Today I've highlighted a few shades and finishes that might help you find, and choose your perfect nude lipstick.

The Sheer Nudes

Left- Mac 'Pattisserie'   Right - Mac 'Peach Blossom'

These finishes are really good for super pale people, go too pink or beige in flat opaque colours and the results can be very unflattering. If you're at the other end of the spectrum and are super tanned, these sheer shades also look gorgeous and compliment a healthy tan perfectly.

The Peach/Brown Nudes

Left - DHC Premium Lipstick 'Rose Gold' (*)   Right - Mac 'Shy Girl'

These shades are great for fair skinned girls as the warm pigment separates the lips from the rest of the face and avoids looking corpse like! The shades also compliment skin tones with olive and yellow undertones - but try picking shades with a gloss or sheen to them so they don't look flat, and not going for a shade the same colour as your skin. Go either lighter (on darker skin types) or darker (on lighter skin types), so the shade doesn't erase all the life out of your face.

The Pink Nudes

Left - BeautyUk 'Son of a Peach'(*)   Right - Mac 'Crème Cup'

This picture shows what happens if you go too light and matte with your nude lip. 'Son of a Peach' is a pale cooled toned pink, that for my colourings is far too pale and is definitely a contender in the perfect concealer lip category!
Flat nude shades are never that flattering so its always good to choose a shade that has a slight sheen, opt for a satin finish oppose to a flat out matte shade. Pink undertones can compliment both fair and darker skin types with a yellow/olive undertone, but pale girls with redness and pink in their skin may need something a little warmer to liven up their complexion.
The Pink/Beige Nudes

Left -Apocalips 'Nude Eclipse'(*)   Right - Illamasqua 'Rosepout'

These shades sit somewhere in the middle of the pink and brown spectrum, your skins natural undertones will either bring out the pink or brown pigments in the lip shade. These can be a little tricky to wear as they can mimic your skin tone and make you look washed out  if you don't pick the right shade. The main thing to remember is that if you're pale you need to go a shade darker than your skin tone, and if you're darker you need too go a shade lighter than your skin tone, his will stop the face looking like a blank canvas and give it some structure and definition.

I hope this has helped you out a little and steered you into finding your perfect nude lip shade!
Let me know what your favourite nude lipstick is!

High-end Make Up Favourites

Nars Laguna
This has been a firm favourite of mine for ages. The colour is perfect for contouring the face and adding warmth, without looking orange or muddy. It contains a tiny amount of shimmer, which is visible in the pan but undetectable when on the skin and is just one of the best bronzers I've ever tried!
These lipsticks are not only stunning to look at but pack one hell of a punch when on the lips. The semi matte finish is pigmented without being drying and lasts a considerable amount of time on the lips without smudging or bleeding.
I don't tend to use this powder on a day to day basis and save it for special occasions or when I want to look particularly polished and put together.
The powder delivers a soft focus veil across the skin almost like an Instagram filter would. It blurs out fine lines and pores, and does so without looking heavy or cakey on the skin.
Mac Eye Shadows
I know I'm not the only one who loves these! The vast colour range means you can create any make up look you want in a variety of finishes and tones. The shadows are buttery soft and blend like a dream, making them easy to work with and a must have item for any beauty junkie.
If you suffer from dark circles, then you need this in your life! The cream counteracts the blue and purples tones under the eyes, making them look fresher and more wide awake. There are a variety of different shades, all catering for different skin tones and colourings to make sure the shade is perfect for you and your needs.
This mascara is fantastic for separating and defining the bottom lashes. The tiny wand makes for easy application and the formula makes sure the mascara stays put throughout the day without smudging or transferring. No panda eyes with this baby!

Bobbi Brown Blush in 'Coral'
This is my go to blush, it manages to compliment and adapt to any make up look. The rich coral shade leans on the red/natural flush tone on me, warming up my complexion nicely and offering a subtle sheen to the cheeks.
Much like the eye shadows they offer, their lipsticks come in a array of shades and finishes. My personal favourite finishes are the Crème Sheen, Satin and Matte. The colour selection ranges from natural everyday wear, to the extreme for a more high fashion or daring look.
Nars Sheer Glow Foundation.
This looks natural and skin like when applied and delivers excellent blendable coverage. The finish isn't overly dewy ( which I like) but just looks healthy and lit from within. It's a great foundation to have, perfect for everyday or a special occasion.
Mac Pro Longwear Concealer.
Want high coverage that doesn't crease and lasts all day? Well this is the concealer you need. I tend to use this around the eye area in a lighter shade to my foundation to highlight and contour the face. The concealer easily erases discolouration and is perfect for creating a flawless base.
I never thought I would love a foundation brush as much as I love my Real Techniques Buffing Brush, but this one is a total game changer in my opinion. It distributes my foundation evenly, and quickly delivers a flawless airbrushed finish, while somehow managing to make it look like I'm not wearing anything more than a tinted moisturiser. I don't know how it does it but it's fab!
Mac Prep and Prime Highlighter in 'Light Boost'
This is great at highlighting the face and lightening any dark areas I have. The pen has a slight yellow tone to it which helps to counteract redness making the skin look more even, and by placing it on all the high points of the face makes it appear to have more structure and definition.

Jo Malone 'Vanilla & Anise' Cologne

Jo Malone Vanilla and Anise cologne review and description.

There's one thing I believe and that is you can never have enough perfume, especially if that perfume comes from Jo Malone. All the fragrances I have from her are unique and capture a scent that in my mind can not be replicated. My newest offering is the Vanilla and Anise Cologne, a scent recommended by the gorgeous Stacey from Expat Make up Addict . I had never even smelt this perfume before getting it and bravely sent my husband off shopping for me with a list of a few scents I might like (all recommended by Stacey-she is now my Jo Malone expert on hand!).

"A modern story of vanilla. The fragile vanilla orchid forms the perfect counterpoint to the oaky caramel-rich vanilla bourbon, spiced with star anise. Warm and enveloping." Jo Malone

The scent is very different to anything else I own. Its placed within the Spice section of Jo Malone family and contains a sweetness (coming from the vanilla), which is soft and delicate and not overpowering at all. It's warm and comforting and at the same time has a light freshness to it which I love. There's a slight musky element to it which gives it warmth and cuts through the sweet vanilla, making it more of an evening perfume for me but its not too rich where it can't be worn during the day.

Within the gorgeous wrapping came a sample of their new fragrance 'Wood Sage & Sea Salt' which is due to be released on the 1st September, and oh my it's stunning! Its so fresh and light with a slight aquatic tone to it and I'm definitely going to be picking it up as soon as its released!

What's your favourite Jo Malone fragrance?

Yankee Candle 'Early Sunrise'

Yankee Candle 'Early Sunrise' *Large Jar £19.99

The 'Early Sunrise' candle has found it's way into my life and into the Special Appearances section of the Yankee Candle website.

"A new day dawns crisp and fresh in this clean lemony citrus scent with hints of ginger and tea." Yankee Candle

This scent is not my usual choice, containing pure extracts of Lemon, Ginger and Tea, ingredients on their own that don't wow me or woo me to buy, but this candle has quickly become one of my favourites.

When smelt unlit the aroma is very lemony and I instantly thought of household cleaner, not a smell I really like to be honest! But when lit the scent changes dramatically. The warmth of the ginger cuts through and completely changes and softens the initial lemon fragrance. It smells fresh, but spicy and warm and reminds me more of a Margarita than of the initial household cleanser that I first smelt.

The fragrance doesn't seem to have as much throw as some Yankee Candles I've tried but I actually think I prefer that as this just seems to freshen the room in a understated way and is not overpowering at all. Think of the scent as a palate cleanser, a fresh sorbet you have in between meals to help neutralise and remove any unwanted flavours. This is that in candle form!

Does this scent appeal to you? What's your favourite Yankee Candle scent?

Soft Brown Smokey Eye using Makeup Geek and Mac

In my recent post you may have seen me purchase a few eye shadows from Makeup Geek and I couldn't wait to try them out. This is one of the eye looks I created, a wearable smokey eye using warm browns and gold. This look is ideal for a daytime or can paired with a winged liner and lashes for a more vamped up glam evening look. If you like this look I've listed below the products and brushes used...
L-R Peach Smoothie, Crème Brulee, Cocoa Bear and Amber Lights
  • I used 'Peach Smoothie' in the crease on a Zoeva 227/Soft Definer Brush  as a transition shade to help blend the other shadows out. Peach Smoothie is a perfect matte peach/cream that subtly defines the crease and can be paired with the majority of eye shadows to help blend them out.
  • To define the crease a bit more I added 'Crème Brulee' to the socket line using a Zoeva 228/Crease Brush . Crème Brulee is slightly deeper and warmer than Peach Smoothie, both are buttery soft and blend out beautifully. This shade doesn't do too much for the look but makes blending out the next shade a lot easier and just adds more dimension to the eye. I also used this under the lower lash line from outer to liner corner.
  • To darken up the outer corner I used 'Cocoa Bear' on a Makeup Geek Soft Dome Brush. The brush is a little denser that the previous brushes used but concentrates the colour more by just placing it in the areas you want it. 'Cocoa Bear' to a beautiful rich reddy brown which is a great substitute for black when you want a more natural smokey eye. I also used this on the lower lash line in the outer corner to add more definition for a more 'smoked out' look.
  • To finish off the look and add a bit of sparkle I placed Mac 'Amber Lights' on the inner mobile lid using a Mac 239/Eye Shader Brush. By using this brush to pack the colour on you prevent fall out and the shimmer transferring onto the skin below. I love this colour, it contains just the right amount of gold and copper and is fantastic for anyone with green/blue eyes because it compliments them beautifully and really makes them pop!
I hope you liked this look. Have you got any of these shades? How do you like to wear them?

Mac Playland Lipsticks

Mac Playland Collection. Happy go Lucky and Red Ballon lipstick swatches and review
Top 'Happy-Go-Lucky' Bottom 'Red Ballon'.

I was very lucky last week and won Stacey from Expat Makeup Addict blog giveaway. The prize were these MAC lipsticks from the Playland collections. I was so excited as it seems like ages ago since I bought anything from MAC and I was getting slight withdrawal symptoms, so thank you so much Stacey!!

"Welcome to M∙A∙C Playland, a funtastical wonderland of enchantment and delight. Luscious shades of Lipstick and Lipglass liven lips in playful pinks, brilliant purples and bright corals. Tease and toy around with a carousel of Casual Colour pots in neon orange and hot pink, to stand out bright as balloons in a blue spring sky. Pigments and Chromagraphic Pencil add a cotton-candy cascade of colour to this season’s stylish, fun-packed fantasy." MAC

Both lipsticks are Amplified and deliver a satin finish to the lips. The shades I got were 'Happy-Go-Lucky' and 'Red Balloon'.
'Happy-Go-Lucky' is a bright blue toned pink, and even though it's vivid it's very wearable and adds just the right amount of interest to the lips.
'Red Balloon' is muted pinky red and almost has a dusky rose feel to it. It's the sort of colour that would go with everything and the perfect shade if you're scared of bold reds, as it's an ideal first red shade for anyone.
These and other items from the Playland collection are all available on the Mac website.

Have you picked anything up from the MAC PlayLand Collection?

Hauling | MakeUp Geek & Maybelline

Its haul time again people! There's a couple of things that have been on my wish list for some time, and every time I see them pop up on someone's blog it reminds me of all the lovely things I'm yet to buy. My first order to Makeup Geek was made over 3 weeks ago now, and this week they finally arrived ( with a customs charge, which was a bit annoying). I've heard many people talking about their eye shadows, and how they're on par with MAC, minus the price tag, so I thought it was about time I tried them for myself! I got three eye shadows, a Z palette and the Soft Dome Shadow Brush.
Left - Right Crème Brulee, Cocoa Bear and Peach Smoothie all $5.99 each
All the shades I got are matte.  I've been looking for some warm matte transition colours that I could use in the crease, I couldn't seem to find any that weren't in numerous different palettes, and not wanting to buy two or three palettes I decided these were the best option. On first inspection of the shadows they seem buttery soft and well pigmented, and I hope to create some make up looks with these in the coming weeks so keep your eye out for them!
The Soft Dome Brush ($7.99) is slightly tapered and looks perfect for defining the crease, the soft bristles look ideal for buffing and defusing the eye shadows so I look forward to giving it a whirl.
Maybelline had a 3 for 2 offer in Boots so of course I had to pick up a few things. Firstly was the 'Even Better Skin' foundation, a foundation that "Evens out skin tone instantly and delivers better looking skin in 3 weeks"!! With claims like that I was sold instantly and look forward to my "better skin" in the future! Well I'm hoping anyway!
No shopping trip is complete without a lipstick purchase and this trip was no different. I picked up two lippies. Colour Sensational 'Shocking Coral', a bright vivid pinky coral which I'm in love with already! And the Colour Sensational Shine Gloss in ' Glorious Grapefruit', a sheer peachy coral shade with a tiny hint of shimmer that looks natural and understated on the lips.

What products have you been hauling recently? Have you tried any of these?
